Literature at the risk of the videogame culture:
LitRPG as a media renewal

Paper published in French in the journal Semeion Med in the 6th issue Les représentations médiatiques du littéraire, 2021.

Focusing on six LitRPG novels, this essay studies the relationship between the literary culture and the video game culture. This literary genre is defined by the hybridation of video game codes inside the text. However, LitRPG novels can be read as writtenretranscriptions of game experiences. Thus, the gamification of literature they operate can be seen as less a renewal of literary forms than a textual experimentation to imagine the possibilities of the video game medium.
